LEARN 2 RIDE

When Rachel (one of the founders of RnR Cycles) was 17, she and her dad decided to get their motorcycle license.  Loudoun NOVA Community College was the only place around that offered a comprehensive basic course, and back then, the campus was surrounded by nothing but farm fields. My, has Loudoun grown since then!  And, at the time, women who rode motorcycles were very scarce.  So taking this course for Rachel was a bit intimidating!  But, she did it and she's been riding ever since.  So if she can do it, so can you!

Before signing up, know that this course is for those who WANT to DO it-  classes are held rain or shine, and students must attend all sessions.  The student must pass both a written and a riding-skills test. A completion card is awarded upon successful completion of the class.  This completion card exempts the student from the riding portion of Virginia's

DMV license test and may entitle the student to a reduced rate on insurance.

By comprehensive, we mean COMPREHENSIVE.  This course does not assume you have any previous riding experience.  The Basic Rider Course is a complete course of instruction for street riders of all ages.  This 15-hour course consists of 10 hours of practice and 5 hours in the classroom, and is for anyone who wants to learn to ride a motorcycle. Students will learn the basic skills of motorcycle operation, effective braking and obstacle avoidance, as well as safe riding strategies - skills normally acquired only after several years of trial-and-error riding.

The college provides motorcycles and helmets, but if you're serious about riding, we recommend giving us a visit so you you can wear your OWN helmet instead of a used one worn by countless previous students.  We can correctly measure the circumference of your head for a helmet that best fits YOU. Plus, you'll look cooler than your fellow students!  We also have other gear that you will need to include gloves, boots, and jackets.  And, any NOVA Motorcycle Rider Training Program student will get 10-20% off retail cost on their initial purchase of gear.*  Just bring your enrollment confirmation form to us!

*Does not apply to sale items.

Enrollment is limited and classes fill very quickly. This is a physically demanding program.  Students must be 18 years of age or older or have parental permission. Weekend classes are offered from mid-March through mid-December. There are also weekday classes available.   If you live closer to the Alexandria campus, NOVA Community College holds courses there, as well.
